Wearables
“My new love affair is creating wearable art. It gives me the opportunity to exhibit my craft to everyday people. I can use my coats to tell my quilting journey or display a favorite piecing technique such as building kaleidoscopes and experimenting with depth perceptions. These are "quilts" that I can choose to wear to run errands or wear to special occasions. I enjoy teaching the quilted sweatshirt cardigan to others of all skill levels so they can proudly wear and enjoy their quilts! And of course, it is a great introduction to quilting!”

In My DNA A Piece of Me #95 September 2022 Rachel Clark Flare Coat pattern (lengthened to ankle). My design features a DNA double helix that shows what is in my DNA. This coat is all about my ancestors. It is about the principles they poured into me, reverence for my ancestry, and my love of art quilting. Featured down my spine, holding me up, is a model of a DNA helix. This helix consists of rich African Adinkra symbolism representing the omnipotence of God, knowledge of heritage, strength and humility, hardiness and perseverance, hope and faith, freedom and emancipation, power of love, intelligence and ingenuity, quality control and self-examination, beauty, and affluence, power and abundance. Interspersed between these human character traits are images of my ancestors - my mother and father and their mothers and fathers. Surrounding my double helix are fabrics that give honor to Africa including some pieces that were used in other quilts that I have created. This is a quilted coat using the pattern and techniques taught by Rachel Clark. To complete an ensemble, I made a pair or pants and a top to match the coat. Materials: Cotton, polyester lining, wooden buttons and magnetic snaps.
